when the angels start singing...
Jacob's Lullaby is a legacy of love, remembrance, and gentle storytelling. I tell the story of a short life that will impact families forever. For no charge to my clients I offer maternity and hospital pictures within my availability to honor these little ones.
There are stories that never quite begin or end, they simply exist. They are carried around like a heavy weight and often times are not set down until alone or in the quiet...when the load becomes too much to carry. My Jacob's is one of those stories.
After a high risk twin pregnancy from the start, we traveled to Cincinnati for the second time on a cold March week. I was exhausted. You see, we had already been to Cincinnati on Valentine's Day and our numbers barely fell short for a surgery to save our boys. When we ventured back in March our numbers had gotten pretty awful and we were left with two options...get operated on at 20 weeks pregnant while being wide awake or take a chance of losing both of our boys. I was terrified but we chose to give them the best chance we knew how to. Our surgery was supposed to last an hour and I was in surgery for 4 hours. They used laparoscopic state of the art equipment to enter Gabriel's amniotic sac and operate on the placenta that both of our boys shared. We don't know what happened in that room because they gave me something to go to sleep after I started feeling burning and severe pain inside my womb. All I know is two days later, Jacob had no heartbeat. That's where this story begins and never ends.
I carried both boys for 13 more weeks, 3 of those being hospitalized after Gabriel's waters broke. At 33 weeks I was rushed for an emergent cesarean and gave birth to two beautiful boys. One of which never breathed. I planned a NICU stay for Gabriel and a funeral for Jacob within 24 hours.
Jacob was stillborn but he was STILL BORN. His life mattered and so do the other angels I have come in contact with over the years. Jacob is my WHY for needing to start this legacy. He lives on through my lens. He lives in my heart and I give my heart to all of those suffering such a profound loss no matter what gestation.
This isn't just a branch of my photography business. It isn't a service, it's a CALLING.
a legacy was born, but never buried
What does Jacob's Lullaby mean to me?
A lullaby is something you sing softly.
It's wrapped in love and quiet.
It's comfort without expectation.
It's presence, even when words feel impossible.
It holds space for families walking through the unimaginable.
It's a safe place for those to lay their burdens down and let me hold them for a while.
I hope to offer a moment to slow down to my families, a chance to honor their baby(ies) and a way to say...
'YOU EXISTED. YOU MATTERED. YOU ARE LOVED."
this is my promise
Jacob's lullaby will always be rooted in compassion over perfection, dignity over display, love over loss.
This is how I honor my son.
This is how I give meaning to his and your stories.
This is how his lullaby will be sung...softly, lovingly and endlessly.
Every session under Jacob's Lullaby is approached with the same care that I wish every parent received in their darkest moments. I lead with empathy. I listen first. I move slowly. I understand the silence and its deafening roar. I understand tears. I understand the ache of holding a baby you won't bring home. I am so deeply sorry fate has brought us together.
